#1 - Cut the bottom runner the full barn door width - We use a treated 2x6 to prevent the door from rotting. Another plus for using a treated bottom board is if you go with a metal exterior - You can leave the metal up 1-2" .
- Why leave the metal Up on the bottom? You can add a support stake or roller to press against here. This also helps prevent the metal ribs of the door from catching on grass clippings and debris.
#2 - Cut your top board for your barn door the same length as the bottom runner in step 1.
#3 - Cut your Vertical boards that will go on the very left and very right side of your door frame.
#4 - Cut the barn doors middle pieces
#5 - Space your middle pieces evenly, or you can go 24" on center
$6 - If you are spacing the middle barn door pieces evenly, measuring to the centers of the boards is the easiest math.

How To Build a Sliding Barn Door - Assembling the Doors Directions54 viewsHow to Cut Your Barn Door Pieces was Described in Steps 1-6 - We are moving on to the assembling of the barn door pieces in stages 7-10. Doing a dry fit to make sure you cut the barn door parts to the correct measurements is always recommended. Check twice, build once is the popular builder saying. I like to use a Kreg-Jig and screws to fasten the door pieces together. This keeps everything nice and tight. Other methods for fastening the boards together include adding plywood on the inside (Works well for an insulated sliding door), toe nailing or-screwing, purchasing metal gussets along with toe nailing, and simply fastening the frame directly to the barn doors exterior metal.

Red barns never seem to go out of style along with green and white metal barns., Off-white metal colors are also holding their own with different shades of blue and grey metals currently the In-color. This barn door was a replacement - And you can see the barn door hangers and roller track style. Three lag bolts go all the way through the barn door for each roller. We build the barn door, attach the hangers to the door, and then using two or three men slide the barn door onto the track.
